When you think of The Elixir of Life, what do you think of? Alcohol? Some kind of fizzy drink?

Coffee? For me, and for many others, Water is the first thing that pops into my mind. And living in a country where we have the world's highest quantity of freshwater, clean water is definitely bountiful. I feel blessed, especially in a world where clean water access isn't always as easy as turning on the tap, and holding out a cup to collect it. And depending on where you are in the world, there's a fairly easy way to test your water for consumption. If you can manage to get your hands on a PH test, to check the acidity of your water, then you can gage pretty easily and cheaply, just how drinkable your local water is.

For the longest time, I'd be one of those consumers that would buy a water filter every two months or so, and then one day I got to thinking----how clean in my local water? So I got to doing some more exploring. And low and behold, after conducting several tests, I realized I was pretty much throwing out about $20 in filters when my tap water was perfectly fine. In fact, when I did my PH test, the test tube swarm a nice blue/purple. (For those of you not familiar with a PH scale, acids & basics, you want to stay away from yellow showing up in the test tube. You want water that's more towards to cooler colour spectrum.) Then, of course being the curious creature that I am---I decided I'd test out bottled water too. And I did. And when I did, I discovered some interesting results that actually surprised me. Especially when you consider the point behind bottled water. I went out to the local Dep (Convenience store in Quebec) and purchased your typical name brand bottled water. From the cheapy cheap stuff all the way to the expensive stuff. When I conducted my PH test, I found that that cheap bottled water was acid as hell. Near the yellow/green spectrum. This surprised me. Why, you ask? Well, when the water from the tap is free and tests around blue/purple, then how the hell can something you pay for be worse in comparison? In fact, I found that around 30% of the bottled water I tested turned out to be wayyyyy too acidic for my personal comfort. Then you have folks who tell me, "So what if the water is a little acidic. We consume acidic things every day, all the time. Hell! Lemons are acidic!"-------

And I agree. But then what the hell are we using to filter us if we're using acidic water to hydrate and detoxify our bodies? How much more damage are we doing to ourselves after a night of hard drinking, when we pick up a cheap bottle of water because we have certain expectations? Also, we don't eat lemons every day. We don't drink coffee every day (Some of you do. Vampires :P Switch to tea! You'll thank me!) and in fact, we hope to have a balanced diet, eating right, and drinking loads of water every day. Some of us fail hardcore, but sometimes we just need help. Something as simple as water shouldn't be a concern in the back of our minds, especially when it can be difficult enough just to know what ingredients to avoid in food alone. Water is the filter we use to clear our systems so it must be pure. It has to be. Or at least at its purest available to you. There are no ifs or buts in this case. If it's compromised at any level then you also take into yourself that compromise. If the water has been defiled and you take into yourself that very same water, then you are also defiling your health.
