Real Friends

Being well traveled, I've met so many people in different places and cultures. The number one thing I've learned about people during my travels is that---everyone just wants to be happy. But often times we encounter people who hurt us without even realizing they're doing so. I'm sad to say that I've crossed paths with many people like this. They're energy vampires, or people that just leech off of your life to benefit their own. Of course, this isn't what a friendship should be, right? It should be a mutual bond of support and respect. Not give or take. More so Give/Give. It's like a marriage but without the sex. (Sex friends are a whole other topic.) So when one of the people in the friendship are taking way more than they should, then you know it's one sided. Don't let them try to convince you you're crazy either.

I once had someone, who was once my best friend, convince me that I had hallucinated a whole experience all because of the fact that he was jealous and miserable. Feeding off my confusion and misery. Taking joy in it. I honestly don't understand people like this. Especially when they're people that claim to be looking out for your best interests. These are people that we should be able to let our guard down with. We shouldn't have to put up barriers when we're with our friends. So I've mentioned before in a previous post. I have exactly the number of close friends I need in my life counted directly onto one hand. I don't need to have more people than that close to me in my life. This means someone I would gladly lend money to, because they would either pay it back, or have done something for me in the past. Sadly, this is how friendship needs to be looked at now. "What have you done for me lately?" And those that manage to have a friendship that is legitimate---I congratulate you.
